The Band:
The Arrival Featuring Russ Miller touring band, was formed in 2007. The first ensemble was derived from some of the line-up of the debut “Arrival” album sessions. This was a quartet that featured Russ Miller on Drums, David Garfield on Keys, John Pena on Bass and Eric Marienthal on Sax. The group played shows in the US and Europe through the release of the record and into 2009. In 2011, Russ wanted to experiment with a contemporary “Jazz Trio” style format. Most commonly comprised Acoustic Bass, Acoustic Piano and Drums, the new 2011 version would be elevated, with a contemporary edge. Electric keys and acoustic piano, electric bass and a hybrid drum kit of acoustic and electronic drums would round-out the instrumentation. Also, many of the pieces in the Arrival discography featured vocals and this needed to be a part of the live show. Russ called on Rick Krive, a life-long friend from South Florida. Russ elaborates, “Rick is one of the most talented guys I know. Great singer, pianist, arranger and composer with a deep harmonic understanding.” For the Bass chair, Jerry Watts Jr. was called into play. Russ adds, “Jerry and I have done everything together. From movie sessions, Pop Star shows, Jazz gigs, Fusion gigs and even Southern Indian Carnatic music, we’ve played in a lot of situations. He is a perfect call to play the variety of styles needed in Arrival”. This trio line-up has remained since 2011 till current day and played shows in the US and in Asia over the years. The trio is just finishing a new double-album project entitled “Soul, Mind and Body”, due out in 2021.
